When we were first called to discuss this walling project, there was a rockery/terrace that separated a narrow patio from the raised level of the main part of the garden. The clients were fairly new to the house, and were interested in making better use of this space.
It was agreed that the rockery and original terrace would be dug out, and the patio area increased in size. We built a long bench that ran nearly the whole width of the garden to replace the rockery, and would become the main feature of the garden. The stone work doubled up as a seat and a retaining wall, holding up the garden bank behind it.
The patio will be redone in the same paving slabs as the seats at a later date.
Denfind Stone was used for the stone work, and Indian Blue Limestone riven paving from CED in Allandale was used for the seats.
