Comiston – steps and retaining wall

This was an interesting job, transforming the steep over-grown bank at the back of the client’s garden into a space that could be used for planting.

The retaining walls created a set of terraces 0.8m high. The run of the staircase of 16 steps was set at a slight angle to the walls and the mixture of curves and straight-edges were designed to give visual appeal.

A low retaining wall holding up the bank of a stream running at the bottom of the garden was also rebuilt using stone pulled from the earth bank.
