Hyndland – Small garden seating and planters

This was probably the most awkward space I’ve had to work in.

The brief was to build a seating area, paving and two terraces. However, the front garden of this Glasgow tenement measured only 7m by 5m. As a result it was a challenge!

The client and I had a lot of discussion on the design. It turned out to be a fluid and positive process.

To make matters even harder, all the materials were placed on the opposite side of the entrance path in the adjacent small garden space. Every stone, paving slab and bit of material had to be hand-carried over the gap.

Still, we were all really pleased with the final result – the garden that was too small to swing a cat in…
