Project Description

Free-standing dry stone wall with turf top.

I was commissioned by the Callendar Estate in Falkirk to build them a dry stone wall information area for the Battle of Falkirk Muir in 1746 which lies close to the work site. We used Hutton stone for the wall with two large stone gate pillars from the estate for the ends. Turf was used on the tops.

The long curved section was tricky to lay out, especially working around the metal information panels. We decided to angle the top of the wall around the circle to match the angle of the panels. It became the bridge of the Starship Enterprise (for Star Trek fans)!

The stone was supplied by the Hutton Stone Co. Ltd.
