The client has a fairly typical garden in that it has a slight slope to it. They wanted to do more with the space than the current gravel covering that they have. They had a rough idea of creating a high-level slabbed area, with some sort of dry stone construction featuring somewhere in the equation. They wanted a curve and steps, and they liked the walling work in the garden in Ayr that we had worked on.
We settled on a retaining wall that would raise the level of the garden to the same height as the foot of the boudary fence (600mm), with a set of five steps that would be the main design feature and a curved section for added interest. The wall would run into the ground at one end, and finish at the fence at the other.
As of September 2008, the dry stone walling is complete, with the slabbing work still to begin at some point.
